One of my favorite discoveries at Something in the Way Fest was Glare. The Texas shoegaze band puts the heavy in shoegaze, and while there are a lot of bands flying the heavy shoegaze flag lately, none are quite as heavy as Glare. Their latest single, "Nü Burn," is a blistering shoegaze track. Plodding along at a mid-tempo, the song powers over the listener with its sheer force. There is more than a hint of metal in the song, making "Nü Burn" sound like if Deftones decided to take a crack at shoegaze and nailed it. This is an epic single from an epic live band, and might just be the perfect introduction to a truly heavy shoegaze band.
Glare says of their new single:
"'Nü Burn’ is about how it feels like the world stops when you’re grieving. 'I’ll find you in a new sun, feel a new burn' means finding those we lost in the warmth we feel... it's a big, explosive song and probably our heaviest. When we finished writing it we immediately knew it’d be a single."
You can watch the video for "Nü Burn" below. Sunset Funeral is due out April 4, and is available for pre-order here. For more on Glare, check out the band on Instagram and Twitter. Upcoming tour dates supporting Deafheaven are below the video and include a May 17 date at Royale in Boston.
