Live Shows: Ghosts in the Snow, Miracle Blood, Sapling, So Over It!, Buttonwoods Brewery, Providence, RI 3/1/25

Despite being a further drive than Boston, I love getting down to Providence for shows. It's nice to not drive on the exact same road every time, and everything about that city is just more laid back. Plus, Sapling and Miracle Blood were playing a brewery where some people were going to be just looking to have a drink and conversation with friends, but would be subjected to Sapling and Miracle Blood. How could I resist that?

First up was So Over It!, a "queer punk band from Rhode Island." I was completely unfamiliar with them, but they made a great impression on me. Their music had such a raw energy and sound to it. It wasn't quite noise punk, but it stopped just short of that level. It was a set filled with angst and aggression, but they somehow made it fun. This was one of the rare times that I went into a band's set completely clueless about them, and they reminded me of the rewards of discovering a band at a show and not by hearing two or three songs before the show.

Sapling was up next playing their first show since November. There was a bit of an element of them shaking off their rust, but in a fun way. The band has joked that their set is usually about 80% banter, which may have been the case Saturday night. But, the songs are absolutely killer live, especially long time favorites like "A Fox Upon the Tomb" and "11:37" from 2023's excellent amor fati. As with most Sapling shows, this one ended in noisy chaos with guitarist Amber Toiletfire Totorelli using a electric drill on her guitar before handing it to Miracle Blood's Andrew Wong for an impromptu solo while she transferred to her Theremin. As always, a great set from Sapling.

Miracle Blood might be the most underrated live band in the Boston music scene. No one matches their intensity, and I dare anyone not to get sucked into their live show. The band plays a hybrid of metal and punk completely unique to them, and as great as their albums are, their live show is where they flourish. Songs like "Hello Hell" and "Phenomenon" will stand up to anything your favorite bands have, and there is always a percentage of the crowd going all out for their set (and they are correct). The secret of a Miracle Blood show is how much fun everyone is having, which is a rarity in either the punk or metal genres.

Closing the night was Ghosts in the Snow, another band I was previously unfamiliar with. The show was their single release show for "Night Underwater in the Undersea," which you should all check out. A post-rock band out of Providence, their sound incorporates math rock and had a certain punk rock with prog rock riffs vibe to me. It had all of the aggression and raw spirit of punk with killer guitar solos. Ghosts in the Snow are the kind of band that you can't tell if you're supposed to fully rock out or more stand there in amazement, but both are correct.

  1. After working with the MARK WIZARD RECOVERY, everything changed for me. It was the most trying period of my life, and I had been in agony and sorrow for ten months. I was at my lowest moment and had lost all I had worked so hard to acquire. But, thanks to The Hackers at The MARK WIZARD'S RECOVERY CENTRE, I was able to regain everything I had lost all at once. I got my money returned in under twenty hours, and my issue was handled in a very professional manner. It seemed so unreal. No one could ever fully understand how I was feeling at that very moment—the feeling you get when you find something you thought you had lost forever—in this case, my life was returned to me—is something I doubt anyone could ever comprehend. For their efforts in getting my money back after ten months of devastation, the MARK WIZARD'S Team of Hackers has my eternal gratitude. I wholeheartedly endorse this team and urge anyone who has had a similar circumstance to get in touch with the Mark Wizard Recovery.
