Brainwasher - "At Least It Beats an Actor"

Brainwasher is an Oklahoma City based band that includes Matthew Duckworth Kirksey and Tommy McKenzie of The Flaming Lips. The band recently released a new single, "At Least It Beats an Actor," which might be the perfect side project for members of The Flaming Lips. The new single is wonderfully trippy, but in that non-hippie version, and leans heavily into the world of electronic music while keeping rock roots intact. It's a synth heavy song that's relatively laid back, and I might be imagining it, but I'm hearing some Spaghetti Western influences here. You don't typically associate psychedelic or electronic with stripped down, but "At Least It Beats an Actor" is surprisingly stripped down considering the genres involved.
Brainwasher say of their new single:
"It’s freakier than a Diddy party, it's louder and wetter than a thunderstorm, more suspenseful than the Golden Gate Bridge, scarier than an El Salvadorian prison, more influential than religion. Who needs Habeas Corpus when you have this video? Did we understand the assignment or fail so spectacularly the assignment changed?"
You can watch the Wayne Coyne directed video for "At Least It Beats an Actor" below. 39 Lightyears from Heaven is due out October 24 on Mothland, and is available for pre-order here. For more on Brainwasher, check out the band on Facebook and Instagram.
