Back in the 90's, Shaquille O'Neal dabbled in rap as an NBA All-Star. His songs were... fine, but he's never going to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for his MC skills. He did bring some much deserved mainstream attention to FU-Schnickens, and he's doing that again with Ghanian-American rapper Blackway. The two have released a new single called "King Talk" that is shockingly great. Blackway has an intensity to his flow that isn't seen much these days. His turn in "King Talk" is going to have you running to Spotify to check out his solo music. What's most surprising is how great O'Neal is in this song. While most full time rappers peaked in the 90's, somehow Shaq sounds better in his fifties than his twenties. At the risk of losing all of our credibility, you need to check this one out.
Shaquille O'Neal says of the new song:
“KoKo and I have been sending beats back and forth for a minute now and after he played me this one, I knew I had to jump on it. I’ve been waiting for the perfect moment for a collab with Blackway and this was it. This is the type of record that gets me hyped like I’m walking out for game seven of the finals. The lyrics and vibe of this track was so perfect for the moment when LeBron James set the NBA scoring record and I knew I had to share it with the world—a king recognizes a king. It was crazy to see so many people connect with the song when they heard the teaser, just like I did when we created it."
You can listen to "King Talk" below. The single is out now via Hive Music/Position Music. For more on Blackway, check out the artist on Instagram.
