Divide and Dissolve - "Provenance"

If you're unfamiliar with Divide and Dissolve, the beginning of their latest single is going to lull you into a false sense of calm. "Provenance" starts off with a beautiful and ethereal instrumental. It's not quite New Age since it's a little too haunting for New Age, but it's at the very least adjacent. This goes on for roughly two minutes until the usual sound from multi-instrumentalist Takiaya Reed's project kicks in. From then on it's a punishing mix of doom metal with saxophone. "Provenance" is a loud and fantastic song that pushes the boundaries of doom metal into new territory. It's abrasive and not even remotely an easy listen, but sometimes you just need that sort of thing.

Takaiya Reed says of her latest single:

Provenance is an examination of where things begin and how they can end.”
