The Promised End - "A Long Shadow"

Image
Last year saw the debut album from Boston's The Promised End, and now they're back with a brand new single. "A Long Shadow" is everything we loved about For the Buried and the Broken. It's melodic hardcore complete with gang vocals, driving drums, and thrashy guitars. It includes the best breakdown we've heard in years, and the song will drive itself straight into your brain. It also sees a huge step forward in songwriting for the band. "A Long Shadow" sees a band right on the verge of breaking out. The Promised End are right on the precipice of greatness, and are one national tour opening spot from being everyone's new favorite band. The Promised End say of their new single: "We are the malcontents of manufactured consent. In opposition, as one voice of dissent." You can watch the video for "A Long Shadow" below. The single is out now on Sound Investment Records. For more on The Promised End, check out the band on Instagram ...

The Promised End - "The Buried and the Broken"

Image
Photo by Brittany Rose Queen The Promised End is set to release their debut album this Friday, and they've released the title track (ish) from that album. "The Buried and the Broken" is still the politically charged melodic hardcore that we've come to expect after the previous two singles, but what's unexpected is that the new single is both the heaviest and most pop single they've released so far. "The Buried and the Broken" crosses closely to both pop punk and emo, but it's just far too heavy to truly be either of those. This is a hard and fast hardcore song with the most vicious gang vocals you've heard in ages. Plus, there is some straight up metal guitar all over this track. Expect The Promised End to be making some big waves all over 2024 with this one. Vocalist Paul Picillo says of the new song: "These lives are wasted, shattered and longing to be whole. The first we tasted has now taken hold. Until the skin is cold." You can...

The Promised End - "Everything is War"

The Promised End (our new favorite politically charged melodic hardcore made up of members of Landmines, SkyTigers, Tied to a Bear, The Effort, and Choke Up) just released a brand new single. We loved "Smash and Grab," so we were excited to already hear a second song from them. "Everything is War" blew our minds. It has a heavy dose of 80's thrash thrown into their melodic hardcore song, and it's filled with the spirit of late 60's Yippie activism. (Of course, that could be the fact that vocalist Paul Picillo starts off verses with "Sisters and brothers...) If you've ever wanted a cross between Bad Religion, Anthrax, and the MC5, The Promised End are going to be for you. As far as we're concerned, we might just have found our best new artist of 2024. Paul Picillo says of the new song: "Sisters and brothers, they're making others of the people just like you. They want you to think, everything is war. It's a distraction to keep do...

The Promised End - "Smash and Grab"

The Promised End are a Boston supergroup made up of members of Landmines, Tied to a Bear, The Effort, Choke Up, and SkyTigers. The North Shore based band just released a new single that is being described as politically charged melodic hardcore. "Smash and Grab" fits the melodic hardcore label perfectly. It's a heavy song that just barrels full speed through the listener, but it's also surprisingly catchy. It's reminding me more of a heavier, more metal based version of Bad Religion. The Promised End have found the perfect middle ground of heavy and melodic with "Smash and Grab." Vocalist Paul Picillo says of the new song: "RESIST THE FASCIST, CHRISTIAN NATIONALIST AGENDA!" You can listen to "Smash and Grab" below. For the Buried and the Broken is due out February 2 on Sound Investment Records, and is available for pre-order here . Radio Compass - "Stay High"

Image
Boston's Radio Compass have a new single that sounds like Boston in the mid-90's, which is pretty much my musical sweet spot. "Stay High" is this wonderful slice of fuzzy power pop. It's almost impossibly upbeat and just filled with killer harmonies with a punk edge. Plus, the guitars just have that crunch you rarely hear this many years later. It's the kind of song that's going to just cram itself into your skull for many, many days, so be prepared for that. This is just a ridiculously fun song that is far more than just a press on my personal nostalgia button, and I just wish I had discovered Radio Compass earlier than now. Frontwomxn Angela Lee says of the band's new album: " Aloha is genre-bending and doesn’t follow the typical rules of how to record an album, what a band looks like or means, how I typically write for that matter. Without a doubt it’s a very personal album to me (and probably very relatable to many), an imperfectly perfect mu...
