dropbear have been expertly mixing alt-rock and shoegaze ever since their 2022 debut EP, and their latest single continues that. "The Mess You Leave Behind" sounds like a shoegaze-y version of mid-90's post-grunge alt-rock. It's mixed with a little bit of pop, but this is a straight up rock song. It kind of has a Veruca Salt meets the shoegaze side of Catherine Wheel, but also with guitars that remind me a little of L7. "The Mess You Leave Behind" seems to leap between the genres, with certain parts sounding much more shoegaze and others sounding much more alt-rock. You know when you've been listening to a band for a while, and then suddenly you hear a new song and it sounds like the band's sound just clicks? That's what this sounds like for dropbear.
You can listen to "The Mess You Leave Behind" below. dropbear's new album is due out August 16. For more on dropbear, check out the band on Instagram and Facebook.
