Rianne Downey - "Angel"

It's been a few years since we brought you new music from Rianne Downey, but the Glasgow singer-songwriter is back with a new single off her upcoming debut album. "Angel" sees Downey diving deep into the world of Americana. It's the kind of country based song that could have come out any time in the past forty, if not sixty, years. It's a classic and timeless song showcasing Downey's vocals, with just the right amount of twang to make it truly sound country. "Angel" keeps in the tradition of artists like Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette in the way that it's vintage country and Americana that can crossover into the world of pop. We're thrilled to hear what Rianne Downey does next.

Rianne Downey says of her new single:

"I think women are taught from a young age that we have to perform or serve to be worthy, and we’re constantly made to feel like we’re not enough. I spent so much of my life believing I had to be useful or accommodating to be 'good enough.' This song captures the moment I realised you shouldn’t have to perform for anyone. You don’t need to be 'enough' for the right person. Just being is enough. At its core, it’s a song about seeing the light after a long time in the dark. I can be cynical, a bit of a pessimist, but someone came into my life at the right time and it genuinely felt like an angel had been sent to me.”

You can listen to "Angel" below. The Consequence of Love is due out October 17 on Run On. For more on Rianne Downey, check out the artist's website.
