The Collect Pond - "Cemetery Man"

The Collect Pond are a Boston based post-punk band with their sound rooted in grunge and 90's alt-rock. Their latest single, "Cemetery Man," has a sound that almost gentler than I would normally expect post-punk or grunge to be, but they somehow pull it off. It's noisy in an almost tame way, with that groove that is required in anything post-punk related. One of the possible reasons their sound is so eclectic and varied is that frontman Danny Moffat grew up in Bellingham, WA, and has played in bands in New Zealand, Seattle, Portland, and Brooklyn before Boston. The song even includes some J Mascis-esque guitarwork, if Mascis were to let his groovier side loose. "Cemetery Man" is the type of song that might not grab you immediately, but once you adjust to the sound roughly halfway through, it's sure to become a favorite.

You can watch the video for "Cemetery Man" below. Absence of Something is due out September 5 on Candlepin Records. For more on The Collect Pond, check out the band on Instagram and Facebook.
