We missed this one when it was released last week, but it somehow feels more fitting to bring it to you this week. For Evan Greer's latest single, the Boston artist and activist teams up with Victoria Ruiz of Downtown Boys. "Pinkwashing" does come with a content warning of reclaimed homophonic and transphobic slurs. It's a DIY punk anthem that's painfully biting. According to the Bandcamp description, "Pinkwashing" is "... an incendiary new song and animated video that directly confronts the practice of exploiting LGBTQ+ identity to justify genocidal violence against Palestinians." You can hear the venom and pain dripping from Greer and Ruiz's vocals, although that could be us just hearing it through the lens of the 2024 election results. Listening to "Pinkwashing" could be just what you need this week.
You can watch the video for "Pinkwashing" below. The song is available for download via Bandcamp with all proceeds going to the Palestine Youth Movement. For more on Evan Greer, check out the artist's website.
