Blood Lemon Cover Jessica Pratt

Jessica Pratt is known for her quiet and introspective folk songs. Because of that, she's not the first artist I'd expect Blood Lemon to cover, but the Boise trio's (which features Built to Spill bassist Melanie Radford) new single is a cover of Pratt's "Mountain'r Lower" from her 2012 self-titled debut. Gone is the quiet and acoustic folk song, and in its place is a loud, sludgy track. Blood Lemon's version is a giant, epic take on the song. Despite that, it's still somehow faithful to Pratt's original in spirit if not sonically. Blood Lemon's version is a straight up headbanger that sounds like if The Melvins decided to go a little more mainstream.

Melanie Radford says of her band's new single:

“I’ve always been a big fan of Jessica Pratt and her songwriting. I love how her early songs seemed to carry a sense of darkness. This song in particular had a haunting, gothic feel to it so Lisa and I felt it was perfect for our respective voices to harmonize on."

You can listen to Blood Lemon's take on "Mountain'r Lower" below. Petite Deaths is due out January 17 on Moon Ruins, and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp. For more on Blood Lemon, check out the band's website.
