STL GLD - "MSK"

As with most songs from Boston's STL GLD, "MSK" is intense. "MSK" is mask without the "a," and while the song is about everyone wearing masks at all times right now, it's much more political and dep than just that. The music in minimal, which just ratchets up the anxiety you're feeling while listening. It includes a line about bird watching which is an obvious reference to the white woman in Central Park who called the police on a black birdwatcher last year. In fact, the location of the video for the song looks eerily similar to the footage from that infamous video. The song is intense and uncomfortable at points, but that's the point. STL GLD are in the tradition of politically active hip hop like Public Enemy, and their classics are hardly meant to be completely pleasant listens.

You can watch the video for "MSK" below. For more on STL GLD, check them out on Facebook and Twitter.
