Our latest neo-soul discovery is Abby Jeanne and her new single "Sage and Cigarettes." I typically describe a lot of newer soul artists by saying that they sound timeless, and everything from Jeanne's vocals to the backing vocals (especially the backing vocals) definitely have a lot of the 1960's soul sound to them. But "Sage and Cigarettes" sounds modern and not at all like a throwback. Jeanne is definitely inspired by that time period and isn't afraid to show it, but she's updating that style more than adopting it. It's a beautiful sound that keeps more than a little bit of an edge to it.
You can listen to "Sage and Cigarettes" below. The single is out now via Eraserhood Sound. For more on Abby Jeanne, check out the artist's website. Upcoming tour dates are below the song.
