The Mistons - "Brikka Brakka Firecracker"

Image
The Mistons (aka the Portland, OR garage punk duo of Sean Croghan and Micah Kassell) recently added bassist Scott Fox to become a trio. The band has released a new single that is every bit as firey as the music we've come to love from them. "Brikka Brakka Firecracker" is the kind of garage punk song that is barely contained. It sounds less like a musical composition as it does three musicians desperately trying to contain this rampaging burst of music, and doing a mostly effective job but there are still some sounds running loose. In other words, "Brikka Brakka Firecracker" is a killer song. You can listen to "Brikka Brakka Firecracker" below. Extended Play is due out November 17 on Nadine Records, and is available for pre-order on Bandcamp . For more on The Mistons, check out the band on Instagram and Facebook . The Mistons - "Transmission"

Image
In the past, we've mentioned the similarities of The Mistons and Mission of Burma. On their new single, "Transmission," the Portland, OR duo drop any similarities to the Boston legends. "Transmission" may still be post punk, and Sean Croghan may sound similar to Roger Miller, but the new song has this bizarre pop sensibility to it. It's still a noisy and discordant song that most of your co-workers will be repelled by, but it's filled with jangly guitars and maybe even a little hint of melody. There are also some strong hints of early rock 'n' roll as if an early 80's post punk band decided to cover Chuck Berry. You can listen to "Transmission" below. World of Convenience is due out May 21. You can pre-order a copy here . For more on The Mistons, check out the band on Facebook . World Of Convenience by The Mistons

The Mistons - "High Water Style"

Image
When you hear the latest single from Portland, OR duo The Mistons, it's going to be hard to avoid any comparisons to Mission of Burma. "High Water Style" sounds like vintage Burma, right down to the Roger Miller-esque vocals. The Mistons somehow make all this noise as a duo, and "High Water Style" has plenty of noise for those of us that like that sort of thing. It's filled with buzzsaw guitars, fuzz, and chanted vocals that almost hypnotize you. It's an aggressive burst of a song that fans of old school post punk aren't going to be able to resist. You can listen to "High Water Style" below. World of Convenience is due out May 21. The album can be pre-ordered over at Bandcamp . For more on The Mistons, check them out on Facebook . The Mistons - "World of Convenience"

Image
Portland, OR's The Mistons make loud music. Their latest single, "World of Convenience," is going to sound familiar to us old fogeys. It's definitively post-punk, but it's the kind of heavy rock based post-punk. It's more Mission of Burma and Rites of Spring than Gang of Four. In a press release, they refer to their sound as "old timey," so now you feel roughly one hundred years old. It's truly this amped up and intense version of music that has been an underground favorite for decades, but now filtered through a filter by the younguns. The most shocking this about The Mistons are they are a duo making this much noise.  You can listen to "World of Convenience" below. World of Convenience , the album, is due out May 21. You can pre-order a copy over at Bandcamp . For more on The Mistons, check them out on Facebook . World Of Convenience by The Mistons
