Babehoven - "Bad Week"

Babehoven has been around since 2017, but the band has moved around quite a bit. It started when Topanga, CA native Maya Bon was a college student in Portland, OR, and has continued in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and currently Arlington, VT. Their latest single, "Bad Week," is a tough one to categorize. The song is filled with a sense of pain and desperation. It's an absolutely gorgeous song, with Bon's vocals achieving a level of beauty not really heard in indie rock while still keeping the whole indie rock vibe going. The addition of what may be an organ providing a feedback like drone over almost the song washes over the listener and amps up the intensity despite the song being relatively mellow.

In a press release, Maya Bon says of the new song:

“This song is a hand reached inward to the swelling and amorphous cavities of griefAs time keeps moving forward, I have found that it can feel as if the 'bad days' keep going, growing into 'bad weeks,' 'bad years,' into new levels of struggle that are hard to move through. Though this realization can feel staggering, it can also feel like an honest admission to self: these times are very hard and yet I want to move forward, I want to feel, I want to grow. ‘Bad Week’ is my attempt to commit to myself in these feelings.”

You can listen to "Bad Week" below. Nastavi, Calliope will be out July 9. You can pre-order a copy over at Bandcamp. For more on Babehoven, check out the artist's website.
