alice does computer music is the project of Alice Gerlach, a New York City based cellist and experimental musician. Her latest single, "The candle of eternity burns for all," is a ten minute epic experimentation in electronic music. While much electronic music can get repetitive, this new song never feels that way despite its length. It moves between electronic sounds and loops to cello and back and forth again. This one is decidedly not for the mainstream normies in your office and will get you repeated questions of just what you are listening to. "The candle of eternity burns for all" is a constantly mutating sonic odyssey that travels between standing still/chin stroking sounds to closer to a bizarro dance party. Gerlach fits an entire album's worth of sounds into a ten minute song.
Alice Gerlach says of her new single:
"I mostly recorded and produced this track in the back of my Honda Fit while I was on tour. That was towards the end of an emotionally tumultuous and transformative period of my life. I was feeling very lost. When I listen to this track now it reminds me of how messy transformation feels when you’re in the middle of it. The rest of the album feels relatively calm in comparison."
