Boston punks Already Dead released the excellent Something Like a War just last year, and now they're back with a new line-up and a new EP. I Think It's Time to Leave... is five songs in ten minutes, and what more could you want with a punk rock EP? It's filled with shout along gang choruses, guitars that sound like sea shanties, and gruff vocals that pay homage to bands like Rancid and very early Dropkick Murphys. This is working class punk at its finest, and the lead single from I Think It's Time to Leave..., "Time," sets the tone of the EP perfectly. It's an epic at two minutes, thirty seconds, and is the perfect song for shouting out while on your way to the job you hate. As gruff and abrasive as Already Dead's latest release can be, the songs also have a strong melodic side, and are catchy as hell. It might be hard to recognize at first, but the melody and harmony is in there.
Dan Cummings says of his band's new EP:
"These were the first batch of songs we had after Something Like a War and we were really happy with them. All five felt pretty cohesive together, and it’s five songs in 10 minutes. All killer, no bullshit. It felt like the right move after the long process of making an album.”
You can listen to I Think It's Time to Leave... below. The EP is available now. For more on Already Dead, check out the band's website. They'll be playing a release show at Thirsty First in Lowell on June 28.
