Figures On A Beach - "Play"

Figures On A Beach were a Boston/Detroit synth pop band that disbanded in 1991, leaving behind unreleased music that never saw the light of day... until today. "Play" is the first unreleased song from the band in thirty-four years, and it's a glorious time capsule. It perfectly captures that period of time when the 80's were becoming the 90's. It's rooted in the 80's, but doesn't quite fit what you expect to hear from synth pop from that decade. Also, "Play" is simply a killer college rock song, to use the descriptor of its day. If you're like us and are only discovering Figures On A Beach now, welcome aboard, and get ready to do some deep diving along our side.

Anthony Kaczynski (vocals/keyboards) says of his band's newly released single:

“I always thought ‘Play’ summed us up perfectly, including the rock and a hard place we found ourselves at in 1991. I very much wanted the band to continue; it had been my identity for virtually all of my adult life, and the lyrics are an exhortation to me and my bandmates to cancel out the noise and just ‘play’.”

You can listen to "Play" below. The Sound Cove will be putting out a compilation of Figures On A Beach's music in October. For more on that, check out the label's website.
