The title track of Martha Spencer's upcoming album wonderfully shows off her unique take on country and roots music. "Wonderland" is deeply rooted in Appalachian folk and country, but Spencer adds a certain modern fun take on the sound with this one. There is still that haunting quality that is necessary for Appalachian folk music, and a darkness that almost makes this sound like a murder ballad. "Wonderland" brings with it a sense of whimsy and joy along with the implied darkness. Spencer also adds some jazz into her song, which certainly helps give it a unique and familiar feeling.
