Nikki Lane's previous single, "First High," went more rock 'n' roll than we typically hear from the Nashville artist. Her latest, "Born Tough," continues that sound, but keeps it a little more country than the previous single. This new song has the dirty garage rock sound of its predecessor, but it also has a little more of a pop side. "Born Tough" keeps the same basic sound throughout, but it seems to meander between the genres as it goes on. It starts off a little more country, goes more garage rock, and then settles into pop more. And then it shuffles that around some more. As always, it's great to see an artist play around with their sound while still sounding like them.
