Con Brio is a seven piece band that formed in San Francisco in 2009. Their latest single, "Traunch," is an instantly compelling burst of rock, soul, funk, punk, R&B... and about a thousand various subgenres. The song introduces vocalist Sarah Clarke, who gets compared to both Sharon Jones and Janis Joplin. Seeing as we're making comparisons, Con Brio are reminding me of Downtown Boys meet Eli Paperboy Reed meets The White Stripes. A song like "Traunch" rocks just as hard as it grooves, to the point that you're going to try and headbang and dance at the same time. Each musical genre Con Brio encapsulate pokes out to take over at various times, but never to overwhelm the others. This song is absolutely fantastic.
You can watch the video for "Traunch" below. Scream At It is due out this summer. For more on Con Brio, check out the band's website.
