Festival Preview: June Edition

Boston Calling has come and gone, and Newport Folk Festival has been sold out for months. However, this summer is absolutely stacked with music festivals big and small. Here are a few festivals coming to New England in June that may have flown under your radar!

Green River Festival

June 21-23

Franklin County Fairgrounds, Greenfield, MA

One of my personal favorite festivals around, this year's Green River Festival is once again a highlight of the summer season. The move to Franklin County Fairgrounds post COVID seems to have worked out since they are back again this year. It's a well run and laid back festival, and this year features an amazing line up. Cake, Fleet Foxes, and Gregory Alan Isakov are each night's headliners, with other If It's Too Loud... favorites like Bonny Light Horseman, S.G. Goodman, Speedy Ortiz, Willi Carlisle, Wonder Women of Country (Kelly Willis, Brennen Leigh, and Melissa Carper), Love Crumbs, and many more!

Solid Sound Festival

June 28-30

MASS MoCA, North Adams, MA

Wilco's every other year festival returns in 2024 with what might be it's best line up yet. MASS MoCA is worth the trip alone, and it's also one of my favorite festival settings around. Of course Wilco is playing two nights (Friday night is promising a set of deep cuts) and Jeff Tweedy and Friends play Sunday night. Aside from that is a wonderfully diverse array of musicians that include Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Nick Lowe & Los Straightjackets, Dry Cleaning, Fenne Lily, Horsegirl, Ratboys, Wednesday, Soul Glo, and many more. And if that's not enough for you, they'll also have a live Song Exploder and comedy including Eugene Mirman, Todd Barry, and Dave Hill.

The Capitol Groove

June 29-30

Bushnell Park, Hartford, CT

I believe this is the first year of The Capitol Groove, but they knocked it out of the park with their line up. The only downside is that it happens to be the same weekend as Solid Sound, and there will definitely be some overlapping of fans. Friday night is headlined by My Morning Jacket with Dispatch closing out Sunday night. Also playing are Shakey Graves, Trampled By Turtles, Ozomatli, The Head and the Heart, Guster, The Suffers, and plenty more! It looks to be an amazing night of music and well worth the drive to Connecticut.
