Melissa Carper - "Borned In Ya"

For her latest single, Melissa Carper took inspiration from Down From the Mountain, the documentary concert film about the making of the O, Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack. Ralph Stanley was being interviewed, and said "I don't think you can get this sound unless it's borned in ya." That line inspired Carper's song "Burned In Ya."

Melissa Carper's song is less old-timey than anything on the O, Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack. In fact, it's a little less old-timey than Carper's typical music. "Borned In Ya" is still a vintage sounding song, but Carper uses a lot more soul than her normal vintage classic sound. It's more along the lines of Ray Charles' forays into country than pure country. From that description, this is obviously a fantastic song, and perfect for fans of vintage Americana, country, and soul.

You can watch the video for "Borned In Ya" below. Borned In Ya, the album, is due out July 19 on Mae Music and Thirty Tigers, and is available for pre-order here. For more on Melissa Carper, check out the artist's website. Upcoming tour dates are below the video.
