Not many solo guitar based artists could even dare to cover a Stereolab song, but Ted Leo isn't your average musician. The now Rhode Island based Leo just released a new EP that includes a pair of remastered and remixed rarities along with a cover of Stereolab's "Ping Pong." It's certainly not the avant-pop or electronic original, but Ted Leo uses a wall of fuzz that makes the song instantly recognizable even though it's just his guitar and vocals. That's a pretty impressive feat considering Stereolab consisted of ten musicians at the time of the recording of "Ping Pong." Plus, it's just a cool sounding cover.
You can listen to Ted Leo's cover of "Ping Pong" below. Andy, Come Out EP is available now as a free download over at Bandcamp. For more on Ted Leo, check out the artist's website.
