The latest from A Place to Bury Strangers' 7" singles series is out, and the noise rock legends have outdone themselves on this one. "I Can Never Be As Great As You" is a wonderfully noisy track, with feedback and screeching guitars throughout, but the song isn't just a pure bed of noise. "I Can Never Be As Great As You" has a surprising groove to it. There's an unexpected base of 60's inspired pop and surf rock with just layers upon layers of noise on top of it. It's the kind of song that is both abrasive and endearing at the same time. There are moments where you'll have to work to find the melody underneath the sludge, but you'll be rewarded when you do.
